A single nerve impulse travelling from your foot to your spinal cord takes somewhere around 20 to 40 milliseconds just for that first stage. Your brain hasn't even started interpreting it yet. What that means in practice is simple: your transmission has built a small, constantly updated model of your intentions. Driving calmly through a town? It's holding higher gears, staying relaxed, and because you've been braking more often, it's already anticipating stops. The moment your right foot lifts off the accelerator more sharply than usual, it reads that as an early signal and starts preparing – before the foot even begins travelling toward the brake.
